A Perfect Cool Weather Day on the Water
The oyster bars mid St Marks River are holding speckled trout and redfish.  Live shrimp could be your best bet as black drum and sheephead are mixed in.  Catch the incoming tide for best results.  Fish deep on the lower tide and float those shrimp under corks as the tide rises.  Winter fishing is on its way! If you want a quiet day on the water with plenty of action, take a look at our   Eco-Tours   or book a trip through our   Fishing Charters   page.

Cold Fronts and Steady Bites
The first speckled trout have been caught at the San Marcos de Apalachee State park.  Thanksgiving week is coming and the timing of trout up the river is the norm.  Look for bait schools to find the hot bite.  Shrimp will catch them but bouncing a paddletail and jig combination is my go to for both sand and speckled trout. If you’re bringing the kids out this time of year, the calmer creeks make for great   Little Anglers   trips.

Fall Fishing
Fall is slipping away and the winter bite is not far away.  This week the bite was mixed.  Some fish in the shallow  creeks and others in the deeper holes.  A mix of speckled trout, redfish, flounder and small black drum was the catch of the week.  As a new cold front approaches, look for fish to move deep on a cold morning in the St Marks River. If you want to get on this fall bite, check out our   Fishing Charters  page  it’s one of my favorite seasons of the year.
